Hi,

I think we are all amazed at the thought.

Is this a plan, layout or a photo etching???

It is really quite a good looking layout and how about more information on it.

I think it looks like quite a bit of work if it is a layout...

Please tell us more so we know a little more on what your are doing or how you are doing it??

What ever it looks great to me..

Thanks airamp ;-)
Yes, it is a project NOT an engrave.
I make that to show at the customer what I have it in my mind.
Some time I make it for the fun no for the customer, when I have the idea I must do it ;-)
It is different element to compose it: pictures, draw and I use photoshop and my graphic table to do it, sometime I have more than 12 layers.
Here I have an idea for a big five thema.

Roland,

Really think it is a good idea but I think the scroll work needs to be changed a bit.

I am not a expert by any stretch but maybe a few other ideas on the position of the scrolls and type of scrolls would be more interesting??? Maybe more of a defined border all around the animals??

There is just such a big contrast between the animals and the scroll work on this one, but leave the animals...(or maybe resize them??)

Hi Roland,

That design has potential. I don't have much knowledge on gun engraving but in this mock-up the scroll is overpowered by the figures, some of the scroll looks out of place to me, doesn't flow. The leopard and lion on the right are great, both stare right at you, the male lion looks off to somewhere else, a similar look to the other two would fit much better in my opinion. For me the hippos look a bit squished down and aging I think a front portrait would match the other heads a lot better. The elephant I like, that is great, you could take that a bit further, move the leopard over and put the trunk right on the edge of the plate? Inlay ivory tusks in the wood?

Just my take on it.

Peter

The difficulty when you make all with the same size, you have a lot background and the animal fell in the empty.
I thing the different size give a life of the design.
I can understand your taste.

Hi Roland,
A suggestion only.Since all the animals are in the savanna grassland how about incorporating a savanna thorn tree some where around the two hippopotamus.
That is a super layout/sketch !

Hi Roland,

This is the big five of Africa.
artexchangeafrica.com

This is a baobab tree found in Africa -taita.info

This is a typical savanna tree -atoc.colorado.edu

Hope this will be useful.

We're all scared of having to consider that project and engrave it ourselves. At this point in my engraving career that work is above even a dream,...

But as far as opinion you could engrave a bulldozer on a shotgun and I would like it.

Roland I think your animals are brilliant; much beyond 'the big five of Africa".
The gold work puts me off.

Cassie what do you put on if you don't have gold, I found the gold give a relief on the design.

Hi Roland,
You have a very unique style of engraving and scrolls, I think if you do the gold in lay in the same style it will look great.
Maybe gold inlay will be a matt finish ?

Roland I don't think your animals need the embellishment of gold.
But if you insist I'd say something more linear to frame your bulino, no scrolls.

I can't justify any of what I say it's just my feeling.
