Fun with the new Nitro G20!
I received my new Nitro G20 last week and have been trying it out with just to see how versitile it could be. I had a silver bracelet to do for my knifemaker friend's 25th Anniversary, so that presented a great opportunity to try it out on something delicate, feminine, and that required fancy script lettering - quite a challenge!
I experimented for a while on some practice plate, got bored with that, and jumped on the bracelet job within the first half hour. Needless to say, my confidence with this mega-tool grew very quickly. The tool is graced with all the power you'll ever need, still, it has all the versitile characteristics we've become familiar with in Lindsay engineering. It hogged out the flat graver bright cuts on the Western Scroll effortlessly. Then I slipped in a Caligraphy graver and went to work on the letters. The tool is a bit intimidating at first, when you first get on the foot pedal it powers up like nothing you've ever felt before. But you soon appreciate that it can cut delicate letters and fancy cuts as well. The proof is in the photo - no problem with control at all! I can't see why anyone who does Western Bright cut would'nt want one of the Nitro G20's - the same goes for you motorcycle engravers. And for everyone else, it has power to spare, yet it can be tamed down to do the light stuff as well...great versatility! |

Re: Fun with the new Nitro G20!
Thanks for posting that Mike. beautiful as always!
I've had one of Steve's older Omegas for a while now. It really speeds up the engraving process on the heavier cuts, like a factory style single action engraving job. I do some shading with it, but I'll have to try some small lettering and see how it does. I've done several jobs with the omega lately, so i can see a Nitro in my future! Take care, Tom

Well i think you may have convinced me to get the Nitro G20, just to use on the foot peddle and direct connect to Co2...
All I have is 2 PC and a foot petal and switch back and forth with the reg... Works great to stipple... Heavy... Jerry |

Re: Fun with the new Nitro G20!
Looks great Mike! and Steve that is a piece of rubber tubing you'll see a lot of people using it as it on graver bits, it helps as a cushion for your finger against the edge of the graver, and I can imagine that would be a great help with the massive power this "BAD BOY" has!!!

Re: Fun with the new Nitro G20!
Yeah, I know, someday you'll all have to have one of these - more fun that anyone should have at the engraving bench. So much fun, in fact, that I just had to make some changes to Steve's engineering - whatta-ya-think? Now it matches my Fatboy!
And YES Kevin, you really do need the silicone tubing to prevent finger irritation from the sharp edges on gravers........ |

Steve: I used a flat for the bright cuts and the Lindsay Caligraphy point for the lettering. The purple you see on the graver is silicone tubing. Its principle use is as a finger protector, i.e., a nice soft place to rest you tender guide finger on while you engrave. The secondary use is to easily identify the various graver points by color. This stuff comes in four colors and is available at your local hobby shop - it is actually silcone gas line for model engines. It fits the graver perfectly and has a surface that keeps your finger from sliding around while you cut - and it feels Oh So Soft! Mike |

Re: Fun with the new Nitro G20!
OK Mike,
Barry is on the handles so I guess it is up to you to do the tubes! What do you think about a Gold one? Would have to be 14K to take the force of the piston. Steve |

Re: Fun with the new Nitro G20!
Maybe 10K would be a better (and more affordable) choice?
Or, perhaps I'll just do the the flames in gold inlay...anyway I'll work this out and have the finished piece at Scott's Engrave-In next month! Then I can demonstrate microscopic lettering with the Nitro! |

Mike
Who do you think will be the first to buy the fully engraved Damascus handle gold inlay and gold inlay barrel or gold barrel inlaid with Plat.? I just know there is some collector or a to rich to be an engraver who will be the first! Thanks for the info on the graver condoms Steve |
