Re: snow
That's strange this year. We are having the warmest winter ever recorded in North Dakota. Very little snow here.
But, everyone else is getting dumped on instead.

Re: snow
Forget the shovel. You need to invest in a prickly pear burner.

Re: snow
Otto, Is this better than a prickly pear burner? Days like this are when I wish the jeep was finished. Here are are pics of it so far. Restored it once already in 1987 but not as good as this time. It is a '77 CJ5
First a pic of it before it all started... The rusted panels on the body get replaced. The body is just setting on to check for tire clearance before the body work starts.

Re: snow
That is for the moderator, Tim Wells, to decide.
Although.. you know, I'd better talk about engraving in the thread too...or else! I'll move the thread over to the watercoolor if/when the moderator harasses me. Otto, Do you have a prickly pear burner that you've engraved? Now we are talking about engraving. Let's see, I don't know what to do about the thread hijacking though. |

Re: snow
Hi Steve,
Thank you for the beautiful pictures. The good thing I like about snow for some reason is that everything looks nice ,white and clean and very pretty. The pictures at sundown are super. We also had snow last night but only 3-5 cm,and its a good thing its sunday today, otherwise there would be total chaos around, already a third of flights are cancelled !! The Jeep is is going to be a very nice car once ready. Is turquoise a favourite colour ? (engine and tappet covers) .Your corvette is a similar colour. But there is someone hanging around in a chair there with a handbag ? All the best with Jeep.Would like to see a few pictures when its ready. MO

Now that's funny right there!
Steve, you should mention the fact that the cat was a kitten when you started that project...

Re: snow
Hi MO, I was thinking a dark blue/gray color but still not sure. The blue color of the engine was the stock color they painted them then. The engine will be pretty much stock but with a little hotter cam. They were available in v6 or V8 then. This was a V8 304.

Re: snow
HI Steve,
The V8s are very sweet engines. The blue colour looks good but the colour of the body will also have to kind of go 'with the colour of the engine'. Its going to be an awesome Jeep. I am sure. Is all that work and re build being done in your workshop ? MO

Re: snow
The vette was all done here in the shop.
The jeep started out that way here in my shop but it didn't stay. Last Fall I fixed the jeep body rust best I could and painted it similar to what I had done to it in 1987. I was thinking then just to fix it up good-enough to have it hold together a few more years. After I had the body painted I took it to town to a Randy Lofquist that has a business rebuilding classic cars. I was going to have him pull the motor and give the motor to another friend that does engine rebuilding. While the engine was being worked Randy was to clean up and paint the jeep's underside. Well, one thing lead to another, as it was being taken apart and I kept saying to Randy... you know, since we are this far let's go a little further, and before I knew we were doing a a full body off restoration. He is is doing a great job and is easy to work with. He doesn't do transmissions rebuilding and such though. So I did just finish rebuilding the transfer case in my shop. It is a dana-300 that is modified with 4 to 1 ratio. ..replaced bearings, cleaned up, painted.. etc and dropped it off to Randy last week. Randy has a website but he doesn't keep it updated. http://www.dynamic-rides.com/Main.htm He has some other projects and motorcycles he is on at the same time as the jeep.

The best way is what you have done now, everything up from the chassis to every nut and bolt. Then there is no worry of any old unseen problems creep up on you later. The complete works will hopefully give a great car and it will also be good in value. Since Randy is a restoration man and you know him you will get a deal. And you get a little time to put up to us hassling you. Any preferences on the colour of the body ? MO
