Microscope
So I just got a B&L scope with .5 objective, found my grs block too high so ordered a Lyndsay Low Profile turntable vise. Glad I did as everything Steve makes is an investment . So the problem I seem to have is not being able to judge the angle of the graver and tend to start too steep or not enough. I am thinking the heel is not right. Ant input would be appreciated. Yes I know , practice but pointers and help reduces that time.

Re: Microscope
Hi Preachin, I wonder if the heel is not large enough for the depth you are going. If the heel is small it will work nice for shallow cuts and tight turns but if trying to go deep with that graver.. it will want to dive and act like there is no heel at all.

Re: Microscope
Hi,
Why don't you try doing a very light cut first then go over it deeper. Also you can not use the scope for awhile and just practice cuts. there are a couple of good practice plate prints on the site. You can also tilt the vise slightly to get a slightly different site picture. Also run your thumb on the plate when cutting until you get the right angle you like. It will act as a pivot for angle of cut. AirAmp |

Re: Microscope
Thanks guys. Appreciate it. I think the heel is off for one as Steve said, also trying the thumb along side the graver for muscle / tactile feel/memory. I just ordered the low profile vise yesterday. My grs vise is just plain incompatible with the scope. I will get the next vise up also before I retire. I think the vise was causing me a lot of problems and frustration.
