Default gearheads and machinists:

Turn of the century steam powered machine shop. Oh my!
My grandfather apprenticed at the Skoda Werks on equipment powered such as this, but probably much larger sized lathes.
There are 20 videos in the series.
Wouldn't Osha have a conniption with this

Gail,

Was your grandfather one of the men who made those giant Skoda siege cannons and howitzers?

Roger, I am sure that he was not connected to that work. He married my Grandmother in 1899 0r 1900 in Glen Carbon, Ill. Those cannons were used in the Great War, were they not? My Grandmother had a brother that was k i a in that war.
My Grandfather was a very interesting person and I regret that he died before I was old enough to fully appreciate his thoughts on so many things. I do remember very well his comments about the bolsheviki's (what he called them) . You and I call them communists.

Very cool!
Old machines made the modern world possible.
But it took skill to make them run.
Not so sure I'd want to work around so many open belts, makes me want to close my finger and wrap my arms over my chest.:-)
