What I see from your picture is two fold. First, the lighting is bad...second the camera seems to be hand held thus a blurry photo. A new camera will not help those problems.

your right Sam, the lighting has NO practice and the camera is this OLD samsung galaxie 3, when the green square appears is supposed to be a good shot. Well I have a vivitar now and we'll see, I thank you all for the thoughts....they mean a lot. Rob.

Hi Papart,
Looks like you need a lot more light on the subject, several from different angles if possible. Ideally, for a handheld exposure you need to get to manual or pro mode. Find a macro mode setting if you can and check that you have enough light for both a fast shutter speed like 1/250th sec or 1/500th....
and a stopped down aperture:

For better depth of field of the focus you want to stop the aperture down to f16 or f32. That needs much more light ( twice as much light at f32 than f16, ditto for 1/125 sec V 1/250) but you will get more in focus and sharper images due to less time for the camera to shake. If you get glare from more lights; you can spray diluted milk on the engraving. Fast shutter, high f stop.

In the old days, for still life you want a tripod, lots of diffuse, reflected light, slow shutter speed (tripod required) for richness of colours and stopped down aperture for depth of field. These days there is usually an "adjust image" magic button somewhere that fixes most ills. But more light is essential to the above.

Thanks GaryM,......your advice is much appreciated...I have a little vivitar vivicam xx14. It EATS batteries, probably no more that 20-35 pics and low battery symbol is flashing. It has a macro 10-30mm on it and not manually focusable. I just now checked and when the low bat. warning comes on it shuts down automatically. It was a Christmas present also. regards papart1
