Thanks to Otto Carter for sharing his BULLDOZER graver point! Here is a fixture to help make the point. If you are into some harder metals and breaking points, this fixture can help to modify the cutting edge with a very tiny squared off facet on the cutting edges that provide a bulldozer effect. www.AirGraver.com/news.htm

Steve, is this similar to what is known in the machinist trade as a "Negative Rake?"

Yes.. Well maybe more like a positive rake cutter with a negative rake honed on the cutting edge.

Instead of dubbing just the tip, this dubs the entire leading edges. You only need to do it a tiny bit.

Otto, I know from drilling brass and bronze that we would put a flat or negative rake on our drill bits and it would cut those metals much better.

I am assuming that this (flat) tool would be used for relieving background. The tiny (0.010???) flat would make for a very strong edge as well as lessening the tool from digging in. Am I correct?

I make a super thin flat. Maybe one thousandth. I make any cut I need to in tough metals.

Hello Steve,

To prevent breaking on hard metals, I changed my graver face from 45 to 50 degrees and dubbed the point.
Can I use the BULLDOZER tool or will I have to change my gravers back to 45 degrees in order to use it?
Also will this tool works better than changing the angles for this purpose?

Hi Eli, It works with any face angle.. 45..50 etc.

That mark is 45 degrees, how do you make 50 degrees?

The mark is just for reference. Set your graver on and adjust angle until the cutting edge is parallel with the front edge that you will be honing.
