hand made hands
but very different from traditional watch hands. I'm making a mech-warrior inspired watch for my brother, that I promised him for Christmas.....last year. So it will look full of battle damage and slightly wicked, just like my big brother
The bottom plate is the hour hand, and the top is the minute. Cheers, Alex Ptak |

Re: hand made hands
Mighty interesting work. I'd sure like to see it when it's finished.

Re: hand made hands
here's the hands with what was originally the movement. I think my brother wants a chronograph movement, so this one gets set aside for now.
Let me know what you think. Cheers, Alex Ptak |

Re: hand made hands
I like the look of the hands but what are you to do for the dial?
A house/clan emblem maybe? |

Re: hand made hands
I like the special designed hands, would like to see the whole watch when finished. Just curious what is the materials of the hands, brass? will it be too heavy that will shorten the running time of the movement? Also want to know which arrow of the minute hand is for indicating the minute, now you have two arrow?
Very attractive project, thanks for sharing. Zernike |

Re: hand made hands
Looks like it will be something your brother will cherish. I also would like to see the finished watch.

Re: hand made hands
Hello Danny,
I haven't finished that one just yet. My brother is very patient I'm going to be making the case myself, so I have to pick up a decent drill press. Should be soon. Here are a couple of before and after pics of a small writst watch movement I did a little re-shaping of the bridges and bevelling to: and I have many pics of practice parts here, as well as some prototype shots of my first series of watches (soon to be released officially): http://ptakengraving.spaces.live.com/ Any talented machinist's interested in machining a few watch cases? Here is a sample of the case design: Hope you enjoy! Cheers, Alex Ptak |

Re: hand made hands
Really Something!
I'd (We'd) like you to get the "grunge" watch done - There isn't anything like it on the planet - YET! There is that rough battered look that is very Intriguing! Like your above pic of the massaged watch case lying on the vise - the holes (not part of the watch) would look great on the watch (with a clear backing) and they were different sizes and mis-shappened. That sort of stuff just isn't found anywhere at any price. Not that I'm telling you to do it of course - just a reference. There is probably a real market for watches like that - ALL of the other watches are just "pretty" - that one "won't be" which would make it great! Keep up the good work. |
