Hello all,
This Colt SAA revolver came with a statement that the engraving was done by J.W.Thompson. I found his stamp under the grip on the right side of the trigger-guard frame. It reads "ENG J.R.THOMPSON". (see pic) Has anyone heard of this Engraver? Is there a list of Engravers anywhere to be found? Please be so kind as to help. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

There is a an English engraver that resides in Sydney (here in Australia).
Sounds like it might be him. He does mainly jewellery but I did know he dabbled in guns as well. This is his website: https://www.johnwthompson.net Hope that helps ![]() |

Hello NicGregson,
Thanks for the reply. Yes, I found his web page a few days ago while searching for info on J.W. Thompson. I emails him, and he replied; "I have been engraving so far for 58 years and had engrave quite a few Colt pistols and other makes – rifles and shot guns! But mainly have concentrated on making and engraving jewellery." I asked him if he remembers engraving this one for lash La Rue. Now I'm waiting for another reply. |
