Template sharpening
The template sharpener on Tom Whites power hone.
Whole process taking 1.5 minutes from a Carbalt™ graver blank to a completed and polished point.

Re: Template sharpening
Not sure. It should be displaying in the first post. Do you see a photo in first post or just a blank spot? If you see a photo there click on the arrow in the middle of the picture. I can see it at this end.

Re: Template sharpening
That is super fast. Thanks for the video Steve.
P.S. Is the grinder in a down draft box or how do you mitigate the dust? :whoo[1 |

Re: Template sharpening
Yes, it is in a box that is attached to the evacuation vent in the grinding room.

Re: Template sharpening
Hi Steve - I use the exact same setup but was wondering what grit wheel you use on the hone? It appears you only use the one wheel. I have been using the course wheel (I think it is 180) and then I switch to the 600. Maybe that is not necessary. Thanks!

Re: Template sharpening
Hi David, I'm using a 180 diamond lap in the video. I don't change back and forth but just leave it on for roughing and then go to the 2000 bench stone.

Re: Template sharpening
Okay, good!
Fast as it will go. I believe that is 3000 rpm.

Re: Template sharpening
I use the same setup except I use a cheap ($89) Delta variable speed bench grinder. I like the polishing paper as opposed to the ceramic lap and diamond powder. Quicker and cleaner.
If anybody comes up with a way to use a template to grind a knife/flat with parallel sides please let us know. I shim the stone up with some copy paper to get it parallel to the graver when doing the sides but that just seems clunky.
