Texas noob looking to start!

I'm really into guns, and thought it would b cool to do my own stuff. Obviously I don't plan on being a pro right away. I'm looking for advice on equipment to purchase to get started. My grandfather was a jeweler and did engraving. Unfortunately he passed before any knowledge could b shared and no one else in the family took up the art. I do have a few of the guns he owned that he engraved his name and years into. Any help would b appreciated!

Welcome to the Engraving Forum.

Gun engraving is a specialized field.I would advise you not to try engraving the guns until you have acquired a good command of general engraving first.

I can suggest you learn engraving and the basics of engraving designs.

Tools can be acquired as you wish.
You could start with the manual tools ,The palm push and the hammer/chisel methods they are ideal to start with or even the airgravers are an excellent choice.

You have to read up lots on engraving and even purchase some books and dvds;
The Art of Engraving by Mr.J Meeks is one of the best to have.
