Re: Steve's Power Graver
Hi Phil
After you will tried, you will see the opportunity of this tools. Like me perhaps you give up your chisels because the airgraver is very easy and do a good work. If one day you want try the Palmcontrol, I can come in your home to share the passion and technics of engraving ;-) You can come in Belgium too ;-)

Re: Steve's Power Graver
Have someone nearby when you first use it. That way they can take a photo of the smile on your face with a wide angle lens and post it here. Great big grin.:yesnod:

Re: Steve's Power Graver
Hi Phil,
In my experience Steve's tool is close the feel of hand engraving or using a hammer chisel, but different. It just feels good. I'll just bet you know to sharp how to sharpen a piece of wood so that will cut through metal. So your experience is going to be electrifying. Talk to ya Later, Jim

Re: Steve's Power Graver
Phil
I'm betting that by now (2 hours later) you've done a bit of a practice plate already. I know you will have before you get back here to read this. How about a picture of it and your initial impressions on powered engraving? |

Re: Steve's Power Graver
Phil,
I am excited for you. Contragratulations! I can't wait to see some examples of you work with your new toy. After you get the feel for it you will find out how play with the adjustment screw in the back which allows you to control how much pressure it will take to activate the piston. This comes in real handy for exhibition grade shading and bulino/backnote work. This tool is second to none and will never be second! Best regards, Rich |

Re: Steve's Power Graver
An observation.
I've just cut out the background of an two areas about 3mm x 2mm it's a typical part between leaves inside a scroll. I've used hammer and chisels for the first and hammer and chisels and PC (flat chisel)for the second. This was done on the second Purdey carved gun. The depth is about .025", flat bottom, right angled sides. The first one took 6 mins. 30 seconds. The second one took 4 min. 30 seconds. Phil |

Re: Steve's Power Graver
PC's, PC's! ALL I read about is the PC's and how great they are (yea, its all true - but still!!) : >)
Welcome to the club you guys. You'll change settings for a week then go back to the original (if you can find it) as Steve pretty much has it right on. Amazing what a simple tool can do for you. |

Re: Steve's Power Graver
So just on your first test you saved about 1/3 of the time? :whoo:
That means instead of waiting six months for your next beauty it could be done in four! And that's before you really get used to having a power tool. |

Re: Steve's Power Graver
Power engraving tools are a great boone to the engraving world. It seems that the movement to accept them in some parts of our craft is still a little slow but the proof is in the pudding.
