The Box O' Happiness
Couldn't resist any longer. I now have a Classic Air Graver and I've got it set up as a fully portable system. :D
I've got a little web page about it here but I'll recap most of it here as well. Click on the thumbnail images to get the full size image where you can see better. They'll open up in a separate window because I prefer that. This is the box itself. Just a $10 one we found at Wal-Mart. The box has some nice little storage bits in the lid, the side ones of which slide out for easy access. When you open it you start to see the goodies! Here you can see them better - the little magnifier and, of course, the AirGraver. Under the tray you start with a folder I keep my instructions and such in and my rolled up apron. Under those, my Lindsay Sharpening system (neatly wrapped in shop towels to keep it nice) And under that, the 20oz tank, regulator, foot pedal, small vise, and vise accessories (again, neatly packaged) Here you can see the crude brackets I made out of aluminum strip and pop-riveted into place so the CO2 tank and vise won't slide around. The vise holder is up off of the bottom to make sure it holds the vise Unwrapped the sharpening stuff so you can see it. The templates are what I keep in the bag. I still need to make one more bit - a simple holder to secure the tank against the box so it can't be tipped over. Just need to bend and rivet some more aluminum strip. The AirGraver is working great! I'll do another post on that. |

Re: The Box O' Happiness
Interesting set up. I need to do something similar to get stuff to shows. Don,t know yet how I will approach it. Thanks for your ideas.

Yep, pretty much anywhere you go to use the stuff you wind up spread around - just like back at your bench. Shows was one of the things I had in mind for the Box, along with trips. I always drive when I go places (haven't flown since before 2000) so I've got some room available. Can't take a full bench setup but just one toolbox? No problem! While the weather's nice I can go out at lunch and get in 30 - 45 minutes just fiddling about. For the folks doing shows you'd probably want to take a bigger vise along, as well as your scope (if it's practical). A bigger CO2 tank would be good for anything over a day, although it's not hard to have mutiple small tanks (I have two). Steve could set up packages like this for people wanting a complete system. Most of the really small stuff - apron, scriber, etc. he might or might not want to include - too many personal choices invovled in those things, but the core functionality would be easy for him to have around. |

Re: The Box O' Happiness
Great topic Steve & VERY useful..
I've got 2 of those same boxes i'm setting up for my upcoming shows & shops schedule......... One little thing i did was. Take some of the webs out of those 2 slide out top boxes, and your Lindsay sharpening system will fit great. The only thing that won't will be the 6-1/2X 6-1/2 pad. But I'm looking at possibly triming it down on one side to fit ..... Them my whole sharpening system will fit and be secure....... Hope this topic don't get shuffled to the bottom of the barrel....cause it's really something useful & most will want to see.......... Hope this helps a little... |

Re: The Box O' Happiness
Great idea CJ!
I'll have to take a close look at that - the one box I'm barely using anyway. Actually I don't have much in either box yet - letting things accumulate there. Why two boxes? Is the second one a backup or for an assistant? |
