Talking Hi from West Yellowstone Montana

My name is Turtle and I am knew to Engraving but have been been practicing precious metal smithing for a little over a year. This is the first forum I have joined and am excited to begin this journey down the hand engraving road. I have not purchased any tools or books yet and am looking for advice to get started. Thank you for any advice and help you may have to offer.

Good Morning from Montana: Nice to have you here. If you ever get to Billings feel free to stop in my studio and try out Steves Classic and play. Jack

Greetings from Bozeman,
I've been making scratches for about a year now with Steve's palm control. I've been surprised by the number of those engraving in Montana. Give me a call if you're in town and want to give a few tools a try.

wow! Its awsome to know that Montana has its own. I am really looking forward to begining. I've been researching just a little bit about what kind of tools to get and a good book I can start with. I am thinking that I should start with a push graver and work up to a foot pedal. Steves palm control look like an excellent way to go in the long run. Since I don't have a mentor here I am truly grateful for the replys and any help that is offered! Thank you.

Lots of Montanans here! Must be the beautiful open spaces up there that inspire you! Open spaces and engraving is an oxymoron
