Re: Practice Knife in progress 2

Re: Practice Knife in progress 2
Gert, this looks absolutely amazing! Excellent job appropriately balancing the size of all your elements. This is one of those pieces that is impressive from a distance, and spectacular upon closer inspection.

Re: Practice Knife in progress 2
indeed, I gave it a try but odd shaped mini inlays in steel are too difficult for me now,
Inlaying raised straight steel strips work ok though. Still need a lot of practice on that... Maybe I should practice not to mess up... |

Re: Practice Knife in progress 2
You CAN inlay a silver wire is certainly easier. But I think it is not a very visible mistake. Make the same design on the other side and we will belive it was like you want it ;-)

Re: Practice Knife in progress 2
Gert,
I love the style you are working in. Your work on this plate shows that it is time for you to move on to something of value like a knife. When you are looking for engraving work you can have a table full of plates and to the public they will not sell work like one good knife, gun, or bracelet. You are doing great Roger

Re: Practice Knife in progress 2
Thanks for the nice critique!
My next engraving will be on an actual knife. I made a few of these knife blanks a while ago to practice on. I'd like to start my own business and therefore I need material. It's my ambition to become a good engraver and hopefully turn this into a living. These are hard times for any starting business.... Thanks again everyone! Gert |
