Default V-8 Rocket Ship

I've always loved those cars of the 50s that were designed like rocket ships... This nickel has a rocket ship designed like a car from the 50s complete with a V-8 engine. It's RL carving #11 for 2011

The coin looks like something Buster Crabbe would have carried or even a "Give Away" that Flash Gordon would have left his enemies, sort of like the Lone Ranger and his Silver Bullets.

I agree, or even the Jetsons era, although I don't think their ship was a V-8

A perfect rendition, except the flame and smoke should be going up (just joking) like the original Flash Gordon Rocket model. Yours is mucho better!_JR

Thanks Ron and trust me, if there was some room back there, the smoke would indeed be going up! I even considered making sparks come out of the rocket, but opted for the more ornamental torch flame thingy. Anyway, I tried to NOT make it a direct copy of those early movie ships, but just wanted to use that style to try and come up with my own.

I had so much fun with this, I'm going to try another variation or two on the same theme. It's been getting some great response from nickel collectors. This one sold immediately for OVER my asking price to the first collector I offered it to.

Wow, that's a lovely coin Ron! It reminds my of my early childhood in the late '60ties. My congratulations, Paulsph
