Default How Many Engravers Carve

I was just wondering if a lot of engravers do carvings also? Their amazing skill at making shallow engravings really feel a lot deeper than they are can be translated onto a larger scale piece.
For instance, Ron Skaggs is an old friend of mine, and I have a Bald Eagle's head that's a life-sized carving by Ron in Mastodon Ivory. It's mounted to a block of Ebony. I love this piece.
He began this carving in the late 70's, and worked on it when he wanted to relax I guess. He finished it last year, and when he showed it to me, I just had to have it. My reason for this post, and I hope I'm not out of bounds here, is to see some other carvings by the guys who work in Gold, Silver, and Steel. I would love to see more work like my piece made out of the softer mediums.
Also, to the Mod, If there's a better place for this topic, please relocate it. Thanks.

This is a baby cradle I made for my granddaughter and a rifle I'm working on with a piece of wood that leaves much to be desired for crisp carving.

Hi, I think also gemstone engravers do things like your eagle. They are working with rotating tools ( fixed at the bench) holding the work piece in their hands. It‘s not carving.
Here in Germany only is one town, where you find this profession.
Search in the internet for pictures of „Edelsteingraveur Idar-Oberstein“ and you will find some sculptures or search for „ Edelstein Museum Idar Oberstein“
It’s a very rare profession in Europe. I don‘t know if you have this profession in the USA?
Best regards
Ralph-René
