Default A portrait

Sorry, I haven't posted here for a while.
Well, this is the last portrait I have engraved on silver. It's not easy to get a good sanding and varnishing the plate so it looks clean. If you have any suggestions on how to finish a work like this (sanding and varnishing) it is welcome. Thanks.

Gracias.

Wow.

If I didn't know better I'd think you coated the silver with the paintable black & white emulsion and printed a photograph onto it, then cut it out.

My Goodness Jordi

It looks like the lady could speak at any time.

Looking at the attached thumbnail I thought your finger was the lady's right arm.

I did not realize It was a cutout until I blew It up.

Excellent work.

"Oh My GOD" Jordi your work is some of the most realistic looking portrictur engraving I have ever seen. How long does it take to complete a portrait like that? also is that done by hand power only or do you use any power for some of it? Your website is really cool also. Thanks for sharing with us.

Kenneth,

So that's what was bothering me about the thumbnail!

It looks like she's sitting there but then his hand in the picture looks wrong.

You obviously have alot of talent. Can you tell us how much time you have in this one progect and how long have you been engraving? Is this going to be inlaid on something?

I hadn't even thought about it being inlaid - it's so beautifully done it would have to be inlaid into something where it's adhered rather than hammered.

But you're right - we've been so enraptured by the artistry of the item that we've forgotten to ask about the setting.

Hi again and thanks to all. I'm glad you like it.
Mckeenh, I started learning engraving 6 years ago. But I have been drawing and painting, specially portraits, for 15 years. I believe that, once you learn engraving, you can only engrave what you can draw.
I used both manual and air assisted tools. Some very fine lines are only done by 'caressing' the plate with the tip of the graver.
A job like this takes from 3 to 4 days to be done, but better having a couple of weeks to work on it. Rushing is not good.
It was glued on a rectangle plate of brass, and all on a wood piece, with an inscription below. I was in a rush and I didn't take photos of the finished piece, sorry.

That's ok that you didn't have time to take pictures of this project.

It just means you'll have to show us pictures of your next one.

Wink Re: A portrait

Thanks Jordi. I like your work very much and agree that you can only cut what you can draw. How did you get the colors in it? Is it colored varnish?
