Copper Medallion
Finally getting some time to play this week. I made my wife this box and put a domed copper medallion on it to give me an excuse to engrave something. The dome shaped copper was a little tricky to cut on, but it was fun to just freehand something.
All critques welcome!

Re: Copper Medallion
Nice!
Did you draw it on the metal or just cut? I've had some nice results from drawing on the metal but never really did any good just cutting, bar a little test bit on a practice plate or two. One suggestion would be to darken the lines so that nice rose shows better. Try it first with something non-permanent in case she doesn't like it dark. |

Re: Copper Medallion
Hey Steve,
I did a light initial sketch, but didn't follow it too closely. I thought about darkening it, but the wife wanted to let the copper revert to a natural color (tarnish) so I though I would see how well the engraving shows after that. Then ink it if it still needs it.

Re: Copper Medallion
You could let it revert to neutral then go over the engraving very lightly to brighten that back up and then put on a clear coat keep the lines from re-tarnishing.
