Default Hello from Romania

Hello,
My name is Daniel and I am an architect in Vaslui,Romania.
I have a passion about medieval swords and daggers, and a friend who make that for museums and collectors.
I recently discovered the beautiful world of engraving and I want to learn more about hand engraving and inlay technique . In this way I can help my friend and make a step further in my hobby.
I am amazed of your work and for that I thanck you
I am sorry if some of my writings are grammatically incorrect or clumsy ,english is not my first language.

Sincerely yours, Daniel

Yesterday I made a visit to my friend and found some great daggers.
I took the liberty to take a photo and ask my friend for the permission to post this photo in the forum.
He agreed and say if anyone is interested in his work is happy to take commands .
Because his english is very poor the messages to him will go by me.
Daniel

Hi Daniel,
Are you sure these are the things your friend makes? Or are they really old ones. They look like antiques to me.

Hello again ,
I told you my friend works for museums and collectors and both of them want the antique look.
If you want a new look (shiny) polished, it is possible, but my friend preferes them look old and antique.
I will attach new photo with another study of a sword grip to prove.

Thank you for the kind words,it is great to be here and see the great work of the artists .
Sadly on this hard times I have little time to do something myself (crisis time = lot of work and less money for the work ).My friend too had a lot of work in other areas of metal forging who bring more money than swords or daggers.
I was impressed by what is possible to make from copper plates and I guess first attempts will be in that area .Soon I will buy the first gravers for that sadly in romania in my area there are not so easy to find .Till I have the time to engrave I will enjoy looking at the fabulous work of Masters from this forum.

Hi Daniel,
I am truly amazed by the quality of your friends work.
Could you give me an estimate on what a sword would cost? Or a dagger?
That is from bottom range to the best ofcourse.

Daniel

I will give a list of prices in a day or two because my friend had worked only in Romania and is not accustomed with international transport and custom fees. Also for the moment had only some daggers maded ,and some blades in forge - work in progress.
The smallest price for a dagger in 200 euro+VAT and of course add transport fees.If the customer want a scabbard the price is negociated separately.
Usually the client send a photo from magazine or museum or some drawing with the dimensions for the object (dagger ,axe ,sword ),the look wanted (new,or antique) and the type of materials for handle (wood ,leather, bone, horn )the blade is carbon steel forged manually.
The command begin with the payement of half of price ,the rest is payed prior to expedition when we send him the photos of the item finished .
All the work is at museum quality like seen in photo attached till now.

Hello ,
Finally I spoke with my friend and he give me some prices for the stuff he made:
a sword like in the one in sword grip examples 500 euro,a rapier like in the photo attached in this post will be 650 euro ( in two variants -one like in the photo with protective shells drilled and with stars.and one simpler with shells undrilled for engraving purpouse .
He ask me if you want the blade quenched (hardened) or untreated softer for engraving purpouse -he made them usually battle ready sharpened or not -after the client wish.
Daniel
P.S. the last command of my friend was a pair of powder flask of german inspiration .

Hi Daniel,
Your friend is a true artist
I am sorry I don't participate in a lot of historical events anymore, otherwise I would show the proper people about your friends work.

Thank you for your kind words.Coming from you means a lot for my friend.
Here in our region this part of his work is little appreciated by the people in his town because very few know the feel and the look of a medieval weapon.
Many of them is attracted by the cheap fantasy swords and knifes what are usually find at the decoration shops.
Lucky for him there are still hunters who want some knifes of good quality ,and some local museums who from time to time ask him for a sword or an axe when the exibit is too damaged to be exposed.
But this is rare now when our country is in deep crisis.
Sincerely yours Daniel
